I SEE YOU

I'm Brad Stein and I am a photographer and artist in the California Bay Area. I was born in a small town but destined for a large life. I knew early on that the camera could help me remember a life that I may someday forget. I started first with 35 mm, but then later found my true passion for instant film. It taught me to be careful yet unapologetic in whatever happened in the shots I took.

I believe in the moment, for whatever it is, the true nature of being ephemeral. I love instant photography because it is what it is. Sometimes it is perfect and sometimes it is far from it, but either way, it’s just as important. To me it’s all about finding the right moment, everything else is secondary.

My photography is based on life as it happens. That is to say, I take pictures as they happen letting the story play out on its own, a mixture of documentation and voyeurism. I want others to see the world that I saw in the life that I lived. No excuses, no apologies, and most importantly no regrets. Polaroid’s are important to me because they are almost always less than perfect. I stand behind the idea that they produce something of a memory that may go foggy but is never truly forgotten.

In the end, the medium is the message, what I’m trying to say is more important than how it is said.
